Weight Loss Q & A

When is weight loss necessary?

Weight loss may be necessary when a patient’s weight is higher than normal. In general, women should work to maintain a body mass index of less than 25. People with a BMI between 25 and 29.9 are considered overweight, while those with a BMI of 30 or above are considered obese.

Why is excess weight dangerous?

Carrying excess weight is dangerous to the patient’s overall health. People who are overweight or obese are more likely to develop high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Overweight women are also at a higher risk of sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, gallbladder disease, and certain cancers. In addition, overweight women often struggle with mental disorders and low quality of life.
